Final Semester of School, Ever.

Have been in a bit of a rut recently. School started late because of an unseasonal ice storm. Still haven't been to all my classes yet.

Finished the E&E on Community Property a while ago. The book really got annoying by the end because the author kept on referring back to this hypothetical couple in her explanation of the law. She would spend one paragraph to describe the rule, then another paragraph on her "Jack and Jill" hypo, which was basically a restatement of the rule. Totally stupid. Also, I'm not sure why but the examples she uses are always ones where the woman is the primary earner and the man is getting some support after divorce. I bet it rarely happens that way, even (especially?) in California!

Also finished listening to the Property CDs. There was a lot of stuff on the last CD I never got in law school, such as water rights. Even the stuff that I did learn during 1L I had almost completely forgotten. And it just barely glossed over the Rule Against Perpetuities. Instead the CD spent about 2 minutes explaining how RAP would only count as 1 question on the MBE, and that most lawyers don't understand it anyways. But I appreciate these little strategy tips in the lectures. They provid my ears much-needed breaks from all that substantive law.

Right now I am listening to Con Law. CD 1 is what I think would be covered in a course like Federal Courts, which I never took. Also these lectures are by a different professor.

I've found this PLI website to help you prepare for the MPRE. I'll look at it when the exam gets near.

Moral Character Application - Complete

From the State Bar of California:
This acknowledges receipt of your Application for Determination of Moral Character. ... Most Applications for Determination of Moral Character can be processed within a minimum of 180 days. ... [S]taff is not in a position to provide information on the status of the investigation until approximately 90 days have elapsed.

Also, pass stats by school is out on the CA bar website.

I am slowly reading the CA Community Property E&E, and listening to the PMBR CDs. I've forgotten so much Property that the material is completely foreign to me. *sigh*

PMBR CDs - Torts

So. I finished listening to the torts lectures. I did well in torts in my first year, which is why I started with torts first. I sort of was able to recall most of the stuff I learned, except for the last CD which we didn't cover in my first year. It dealt with nuisance, misrepresentation, defamation, and invasion of privacy. This is the first time I've encountered something completely new on the CDs. It was very difficult to learn new material off these CDs, because my mind would wander a lot trying to fit what I'd just heard into my mental framework for what torts is supposed to be. But the lecture doesn't stop; it just keeps on going. So I'll probably have to look over some outlines or something later. The lecturer said these areas will account for about 10 questions on the MBE. Also, like the crimial lectures, he had a few funny stories, including one where he got sued for defamation by a former student.

I'm debating which subject I should listen to next. Con law is good, because it is traditionally an easy bar subject. Contracts is long (7 CDs). Property is hard, but maybe I should get exposed to it early on. I'd like to save Evidence for last since I just took it last semester and hadn't completely forgotten about it yet. Hmm...property it is.

[Edit:] It just turned 2007! The exam is in 7.5 months!
